February 22 is the beginning of Lent for some Christians. The day is called Ash Wednesday because these Christians go to church and have ashes put on their forehead to help them remember that they must leave their sins and try to be holy.
The period of time from February 22nd until April 7th is called Lent. Lent is sort of like Ramadan. The Christians are supposed to eat less to purify their bodies. They are supposed to give up some favorite thing, such as watching TV, playing video games, or going to movies. They are also supposed to pray more and study the Bible and other holy readings. Finally, they are supposed to help the poor, the sick, and the lonely with money or by visiting them or by praying for them. ELS will have no school on Friday, April 6th, because on that day, Christians remember the day that Jesus was crucified. Many Christians will spend many hours in church that day.
April 7th to 8th is also Passover for Jewish people. They cannot work on those days.
