Winter is around the corner. When it finally comes, you'll want to be prepared.
I recommend that everyone buy the following things now, before it turns really cold. That way you'll be prepared for it when it comes.
A winter coat: There are 3 basic types of winter coats:
|
Wool Coat |
|
Puffy Coat |
|
Ski Jacket |
There are men's and women's styles available for all 3 types. If you are shopping online, look for the word
outerwear.
Outerwear means coats. Here are places where you can buy them:
Wool Coats:
Macy's,
Easton Mall
Puffy Coats:
Easton Mall,
Eddie Bauer (Online or in the store)
Ski Jackets:
Dick's Sporting Goods,
Outdoor Source,
Clintonville Outfitters,
Backcountry.com (online)
In addition, you may want the following things:
|
Hat and Scarf |
|
Gloves |
|
Mittens |
|
Winter Boots |
Also, if you have a car, you will need to buy a few things to prepare:
|
Drive very slowly and carefully in the snow or you may slide |
- Take your car to a mechanic and check out the following: battery, antifreeze level, thermostat, heater, brakes, and defroster.
- Make sure your tires have adequate tread. You don't want them to be too smooth, of your car may slide on the ice and snow. If you use a quarter, make sure George Washington's head is covered.
|
Check tire tread to see if it's deep enough. It should cover the top of Washington's head |
- Make sure that your windshield wipers are working well. You might want to buy winter windshield wiper blades. You can buy new ones at AutoZone.
- In case you get stuck in a snowstorm, it's a good idea to keep a warm blanket, some water bottles, and some packaged food (like granola bars) in your trunk, just in case.
- You will also want to buy a scraper, especially if you park your car outside.
|
Scraper: buy the kind with a brush and one that is long. |
Also, don't forget: When it snows, you need to leave early or you'll be late! Everyone drives slower (or they should), so it takes longer to get places. And if it's snowy or icy out, call the ELS Center number at
(614) 251-7360 to check if school is canceled or delayed.
