Students that plan on traveling outside the US- 

If you are a student on one of the following visas (F or J) and are planning to leave the US and will need a new visa to enter the U.S., please be advised that due to the US Department of State temporarily suspending the issuance of these visas due communication concerns between its Consolidated Consular Database and SEVIS that this suspension could have an impact on your ability to return to the US to resume your studies.  If the suspension becomes prolonged or their travels are immediate, alternate travel plans are highly recommended.

In other words:  There are some computer problems happening with SEVIS records, so be aware that if you leave the US, you could have some difficulty returning.

UPDATE:  The suspension of visa services was, thankfully, short-lived.   The Consular Offices may resume issuance of the F, M, and J visas immediately.
